VACAY VIBES IN A CITY APARTMENT

A calming, neutral space in my Bedroom. Helping you find tranquility in yours.

For me the bedroom is always the most important room in a home. It’s where we hibernate to. It’s where we relax, it’s where we throw ourselves after a long day and it's where we rest. I think when you wake up in the morning it's important to look at things that make you happy and that give you a feel of 'ahhhhhhh'. It’s where you start the day and end the day so why not make it something positive and beautiful to look at.

Lets talk about the look. I wanted to create a bright, airy and calm feel as this room gets some beautiful light and there is no better look than evening light on crisp white walls. We also live in a rented home so painting isn’t an option, even if we wanted to. The look is clean, modern, neutral, organic with touches of global and monochrome, hints of gold and texture all around. Layering textures for me is such an important element when styling a room, it gives a sense of depth and prevents it from looking static or flat.

This look, for me, is summer, villa vibes in a city apartment and was inspired by my trip to Bali, where beautiful interiors, textures and natural elements blew my mind. It isn’t a bad look to wake up to in the morning.

The Bedding. Probably the most important element of the bedroom. This bedding is from H&M Home. Shock! It's a part of their Conscious Washed Cotton Range, the comfort from this bedding is so soft and luxurious and because its 100% cotton it makes it really easy to wash. I also have the bedding in grey and I’m thinking about buying their brown colour too.

I have paired this bedding with gorgeous tanned coloured linen square pillowcases, which again are from H&M Home (yes, I'm obsessed) which I bought in Copenhagen when I visited with my mum last year. Unfortunately they don’t do the square sizes in the UK (why the hell not?) but if you're in Copenhagen then brilliant, you can purchase them for sure. I love love love the colour of these pillows! The mongolian fur cushion from made.com adds an element of texture to the bedding set up and holds a tonal feel to compliment the white and tan. I have a simple throw on the bed and it's the ODDRUN from Ikea, again this adds texture from its woven style. See below some cushions that would be perfect additions to a contemporary, villa style bedroom.

My favourite item in my bedroom is the Wire Diamond Harry Bertoia style Chair, this chair is a classic and I love it so much. I’m so glad I stole it back from my mum after it sat in a box in my childhood bedroom for about two years, after deciding it wouldn’t fit in my old flat, she then put it together and I instantly decided I needed it back (sorry mum!)

The Diamond Chair is a chair designed by Harry Bertoia in 1952 and an original would be amazing to have however that would set me back about £1000.00 so I found a great replica from onlyhome.com

Accessorising a bedroom is the fun part. Lighting is a great place to start I got this light in my bedroom from Pompon Bazar through Trouva (stylish home brands selling platform) which was actually left over from a shoot, it didn’t get used in the shot unfortunately as the client said ‘it looks more like a hat than a light, can you find another light please’ as I replied with the words ‘yes sure’ I thought.. not sure what hats you’re wearing!! Just goes to show interiors is personal and if YOU like it thats all that matters. This light reminds me of summer vibes in Bali, in particular a fabulous homeware shop and café in Seminyak called Kim Soo (my favourite shop in the world) where they had dozens of these style lights hanging from the ceiling of their shop. Henry (the boyf) and I have this thing now where whenever I show him a nice interior shot, or some homeware I want to buy he says ‘oooo very Kim Soo’ which means he likes it and I have his approval (not that it's valid).

Great bedroom lighting giving those villa vibes in your home..

Let me show you Kim Soo & everything will make perfect sense. Kim & Georgia, a mother and daughter duo have created the perfect setting. It just oozes style, tranquility and is more of an experience than a store. The layout of the shop is wonderful and they display their homeware pieces within stunning room set like areas, it all flows and the store is truly like a piece of art. When we were in Bali, Seminyak I spent a whole morning their on my own, I slowly walked around this stunning, beautiful shop and just took in the alluring surroundings, the charming homeware and honestly I was just in awe. I then ate the most delicious carrot cake for breakfast in their café and that was my perfect morning. Hense why I want to recreate it in my own home.

Accessorising small. I’ve got this Vittsjö shelving unit from Ikea in my bedroom which is great for filling with lovey pieces you want to display. I think it's important for a bedroom to be practical so I display some of my favourite creams, candles and perfumes that tie in with the decor. Having a room spray or/and scented candles in your bedroom can create a tranquil feeling of calm that we all could do with introducing into our busy lives.

They look great in this tray from H&M Home which contains them on the sideboard. Here are some minimal style, tranquility boosting beauty products/fragrances that are perfect for accessorising within a bedroom.

I’m loving these ladders! So had to have one in the bedroom, I bought this particular one from Ikea from a limited edition range (unavailable now) however there are so many of these ladders around at the moment, you won’t fail to find one! This ladder adds that global rustic feel and their actual really really useful.. you can hang your throw on it after you turn the bed back, you can hang baskets full of rubbish you don’t want people to see on them, you can also hang plants off them which can make a great feature.

Just incase anyone was thinking of it, no these ladders don’t pass health and safety measures for you to start climbing them and using them for diy, pretty sure they are solely decorative.

The only thing missing from my bedroom look is some wall art, I’m thinking a dried palm leaf wall hanging or some muted poster print frames. I just haven't found the perfect piece yet and it's important to never rush, or just buy something because ‘that’ll do’ you need to really love it and it needs to feel right.
