Introducing you all to me, Beth Golding, The East London Stylist. My first ever blog post.
It's really difficult to write about yourself, so I'm going to answer 4 questions.
What do you do?
I DO INTERIORS! Why?
Because my mumma told me I was good at it. She's an interior stylist too, a very talented one, might I add. She taught me everything I know about interiors and how its not about what it looks like its about how it makes you feel. When we step inside a restaurant or a hotel that we love we often 'oooooo' and 'ahhhhhh' at each other because sometimes those are the only words you have when your insides are bubbling up with joy.
I started assisting her at the age of 15 for the Next Home Catalogue and at the age of 21 I started styling myself.
My passion for Interiors was nurtured into my way of life from an early age and I am obsessed with it.
Where are you from?
East London. I grew up in Hackney and East London always has my heart. I now live in what I like to call the suburbs of East London, South Woodford/Walthamstow way. I hope to move back to the Hackney heart soon & get my victorian townhouse dream ('Good Luck' I hear you say).
I spend most of my time in East, whether its socialising, eating out, shopping, prop buying, flower marketing. A lot has changed in East London from when I was a child, it used to be a place I would be scared to take a stroll in but in a very short space of time I feel like East London finally became understood. Its now a place where everyone is accepted, where diversity is the key aspect of what keeps it together and where its 'cool' to be whatever the FUCK you want to be. I love walking it's streets of art, history, creativity, my childhood & the all important souls of the community.
What do you love?
I love my Family, I love to travel, city breaks are my favourite and I have a slight retail problem (understatement).
I love interiors! I love what I do.
I love that you can literally take a bit of everything from each era, each style, each culture, each colour and it’s like a jigsaw in my mind- ‘yeah this can work!’
The clash, for me, is the key. Bringing old and new is always a classic but also bringing print on print, orange onto green, clash, clash, clash. Interior Design is something that renovates itself, it’s previous eras come back to life in modern day with a new twist or turn as the ideology of the industry expands.
How would you describe your style?
I love 1920’s and Art Deco style mixed with modern or industrial.
I’d say my style is a bit of everything really. Recently the Global look has been something of a favourite however I like to mix, mash and clash to create the right look. I like to call it the rogue look, for example my dream home would be an apartment in Paris with arched windows, beautiful and intricate french architrave and coving. The walls would be white and the coving and ceiling would be a musky olive green. It would feature a bright pink (almost neon) velvet sofa and a huge arched white floor standing light. A large LED sign in white light would feature and say something like ‘well darling, if it’s what you love then you better go get it’. Fashion and interior books would be stacked floor to ceiling.
This look is minimal but it’s statement, it’s quiet but bold and I think that pretty much sums me up as a person and a creative.
